Kerning Text

Kerning text is a cool effect you can use on your text to make the letters closer together. This tutorial will show you how to do it in the newer versions of Photoshop!

Step 1: First, make whatever it is you are making that you are going to put the text on. This can be a site, a picture, a layout; whatever you want!!

Step 2: Then, use the text tool and type in the desired words in whatever font and size you want. I am using Times New Roman, because it is a common font that is kerned, and I am making it big so it is easier to see what kerning does to your text. So, once you got some text it should look something like this.

Step 3: The next thing you do is select so the cursor is in between the first two letters of your text. Then press down Alt + L(or)R Arrows. You will press the left or right arrow repeatedly until you get the text as close together as you want it. The left arrow will move the letters closer and the right arrow will move them further apart. So now your first two letters should resemble this.

Step 4: Now all you have to do is repeat Step 3 for all of the rest of the letters. Then it should look something like this:

And you're done! Now you can add whatever you want to it; I'm just going to make it better and add a drop shadow and some lines through my text to make it look better!
Here is how my finished result looks:

I hope this helped you!
